Local news Tampa Bay on NCCA Men's Basketball Tournament

Hot on the heels of the just concluded NCCA Men's Basketball Tournament, officials said that the games could return to Tampa Bay as early as 2014. Rob Higgins, executive director of the Tampa Bay Sports Commission, said that the city will bid to hold the games again.

Last Saturday's tournament drew over 17,000 spectators in the third round games. It was the seventh NCCA men's event held in the Tampa Bay area. In the local news Tampa Bay, the tournament was the main news overshadoing airstrikes in Libya.

Main highlights of tournament were: the tense and taut third round game between Florida and UCLA, Kentucky freshman Brandon Knight making a game-winner with two seconds remaining against Princeton, Princeton coach Sydney Johnson breaking down in tears while describing his team's effort in a 59-57 loss against Kentucky, and the wonderfully irreverent Princeton pep band. All these and more made the tournament memorable.
